Top Experts to Discuss the Internet of Things in Live Chat 2 May

29 April 2014 -- On Friday, 2 May, at 12 p.m. ET, IEEE will host an hour-long, live chat between top experts on the Internet of Things. You can watch and ask questions during the live chat from IEEE’s Google+ page. The chat will be hosted by Chris Murphy of InformationWeek.

Chris Murphy is editor of InformationWeek magazine and Global CIO columnist on IT strategy issues. He has been covering technology leadership and strategy issues for InformationWeek since 1999. Before that, he was editor of the Budapest Business Journal, a business newspaper in Hungary; and a daily newspaper reporter in Michigan, where he covered everything from crime to the car industry. Murphy studied economics and journalism at Michigan State University and has an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia.

Kevin Curran is a senior lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, and group leader for the Ambient Intelligence Research Group at the university. Kevin has made significant contributions to advancing the knowledge and understanding of computer networking and systems, and is perhaps most well known for his work on location positioning within indoor environments, pervasive computing, and Internet security.

Oleg Logvinov is the director of market development at STMicroelectronics’ Industrial and Power Conversion Division. Over the last 20 years, Oleg has held various senior technical and executive management positions in the telecommunications and networking industry. He currently serves on the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Corporate Advisory Group and the IEEE-SA Standards Board, and he helped found the HomePlug Powerline Alliance, where he serves as chief technical officer.

Roberto Minerva is the head of Innovative Architectures within the Future Centre in the Strategy Department of Telecom Italia, where his job is to create advanced scenarios derived from the application of emerging information communications technologies with innovative business models. Roberto is the chair of the IEEE Future Directions Committee working group, a group dedicated to the research and development of emerging technologies like the Internet of Things.

William Webb is currently the CEO of Weightless SIG, a standards body devoted to creating a ubiquitous wireless standard for machine-to-machine technology. He was one of the founding directors of Neul, a company developing machine-to-machine technologies and networks, which was formed at the start of 2011. Previously, William worked for a range of communications consultancies in the UK in the fields of hardware design, computer simulation, propagation modeling, spectrum management, and strategy development.
