The accomplishments of IEEE Life Fellow B. Jayant Baliga will be recognized with the
IEEE Medal of Honor during the IEEE Honors Ceremony on 23 August in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The event will be streamed live on IEEE.tv beginning at 7:00 p.m. CEST (1700 UTC-05).

Baliga is considered the world’s preeminent power semiconductor scientist. His development of the insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) transformed the way people utilize power and has improved the comfort, convenience, and health of billions of people around the world while reducing environmental impact. The energy-efficient transistor is used in lightbulbs, automotive electronic ignition systems, electric trains, home appliances, and other applications.

A total of 20 technology giants will be recognized for their accomplishments in advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.
