IEEE LiveWires was brought to IEEE by the IEEE Staff Learning Center. It was created in June 2002 and is the largest Toastmasters Club in the local area.
The mission of the LiveWires is:
Toastmasters International is the leading movement devoted to making effective oral communication a worldwide reality.
Through its member Clubs, Toastmasters International helps participants learn the arts of speaking, listening and communicating – vital skills that promote self-actualization, enhance leadership and become more competent and comfortable speakers in front of an audience.
It is basic to this mission that Toastmasters International continually expand its worldwide network of Clubs, thereby offering ever-greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from its programs.
Prospective members and those interested in finding out more about Toastmasters are encouraged to attend LiveWires meetings as guests.
Contact the Vice-President of Membership with your request for membership information and check the list of upcoming meetings below.
Toastmasters generally meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month unless a meeting room conflict occurs. Most meetings take place from 12-1 p.m., with contests running until 1:30 p.m. Check the daily conference room schedule for location information.

President: Rupal Bhatt
IEEE Signal Processing Society
Rupal has been with the IEEE for three years and works with the Signal Processing Society within Technical Activities group. She is responsible for the society Web site maintenance, updates, support and functionality.
Rupal feels Toastmasters offers many benefits and opportunities for learning outside of gaining confidence in public speaking. The club offers opportunity to strengthen skills such as listening, leadership, time management and many more. She is proud to be a member of an internationally recognized and respected organization.

VP-Membership & Past President: Andrea Sadlowski
IEEE Technical Activities
Andrea Sadlowski recently celebrated her 5th year of service at IEEE. She works in the Technical Activities department as part of the Meetings and Conferences team.
Andrea looks forward to learning something new at each Toastmasters meeting, from tips on public speaking to insight on her co-workers who often choose to share personal stories in their speeches. Through listening to others, and participating in lesser meeting roles, Andrea is constantly building up nerve for her next speech project.

VP-Education: Lynda Bernstein
IEEE Industry Applications Society
Lynda has worked at IEEE since 2007 as a permanent employee. She works in the Technical Activities Department where she supports the Industry Applications Society (IAS).
Lynda joined Toastmasters in 2010 as a way to feel more comfortable giving business presentations and to speak in front of groups without being nervous. Our club serves this purpose and it is also a great way to get to know our co-workers better and to make new friends.

VP-Public Relations: Janice Conway
IEEE Marketing, Sales, & Design
Janice recently celebrated her first anniversary with IEEE, and joined Toastmasters in May 2011.
"Our LiveWires club consists of truly talented speakers who have created a supportive environment to build confidence in leadership and public speaking. Each meeting offers our members the opportunity to strengthen skills such as listening and time management. A common misconception about Toastmasters is that we make you speak. We don’t. When you’re ready, we are here for you!"

Secretary: Beth Surmont
IEEE Technical Activities
Beth joined IEEE in 2005, and currently manages IEEE’s meeting and corporate travel program. She also serves as subject matter expert on sustainable meeting planning best practices, and sits on the Green Initiatives Committee for IEEE. In her personal life, Beth is an active volunteer with the youth program in her community.
Beth joined Toastmasters to get more experience with speaking in front of a crowd and also to practice thinking quickly on her feet. She enjoys making connections across IEEE and learning new things about her colleagues.

Treasurer: Mila Thelen
IEEE Member Discounts
Mila has been with IEEE for 11 years and her current position as Senior Administrator of Member Group Insurance Programs in the Financial Services Department, allows her to serve in many capacities supporting and promoting the Member Discounts program.
Joining Toastmasters affords Mila the knowledge base and the support in becoming a better speaker and presenter. Moreover, she believes that the roles that Toastmasters trains its members to fulfill, especially giving evaluations and answering impromptu questions, not only help in enhancing one’s speaking skills but in building confidence and leadership qualities as well.

Sergeant-at-Arms: Evelyn Hargrove
IEEE Contact Center
I am an Member/Customer Service Associate at the IEEE Contact Center. I have been an acting chair and vice chair of the Lakewood Chapter of the New Jersey Orators for more than ten years.
Each year, I along with other dedicated group of volunteer coaches faithfully challenges the young people by instilling and continually expressing the motto for orators… “Start with a dream and build upon that dream to make that dream a success story”.
I have been a member of Toastmasters IEEE Live Wires Club for more than one year, and for 2011/2012 have been elected "Sergeant at Arms." What knowledge I have gained from being a member Toastmasters and continue to learn from other Toastmaster members, I am able to share that knowledge and experience with the New Jersey Orators members. Thank you Toastmasters.
