IEEE Technical Activities is a major component of IEEE, and includes all programs of the IEEE Societies and Technical Councils.
An IEEE Technical Society is a group of IEEE members who work in the Society’s technical fields of interest (FOI). Societies have individual members who voluntarily pay to belong to that Society.
IEEE has 38 Societies representing the wide range of technical interests, and providing publications, conferences, community, and many other benefits to members within their specialized areas. Society membership allows you to stay current within your chosen technology profession, to keep in touch with your peers, and to invest in your career and profession.

An IEEE Technical Council is a group of Societies that all have work in a conjoined technical field. Councils do not have individual members.
IEEE has Technical Councils, which are groups of Societies working together in broad areas of technology. Councils sponsor activities that benefit individual members of all Societies.
