Volunteer Training - Understanding the IEEE: Geographic Activities

IEEE Sections, Chapters, and Student Branches promote community worldwide by building a network through local activities. IEEE Sections meet the technical, professional and educational needs of the IEEE members within their geographic boundaries by working with their subunits to conduct local meetings, conferences, and workshops. In 2005, these units conducted over 9,000 events. Section members develop new skills by taking an active role, gain management, teamwork and leadership experience, gain recognition for accomplishments and recognize the achievements of others.

Members of the IEEE automatically become members of their local IEEE Section, allowing them to share technical, professional and personal interests with others in IEEE's worldwide member community. The individuals you meet through your IEEE involvement are a tremendous networking opportunity that can open unexpected doors to your future. In addition, active involvement in IEEE gives your career an advantage. You can build leadership and management skills that are not always learned in the classroom or on the job. These are critical skills for professional success.
