Techno-Ocean is Japan’s only international and comprehensive convention addressing the subject of our oceans. This upcoming meeting will be the 14th since the first one was held back in 1986. During the interim years we have witnessed several natural disasters beginning with the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995. On March 11th of last year, the jolting tectonic plates of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the huge tsunami that followed, inflicted an unprecedented scale of damage to the Tohoku and Kanto regions. At this Techno-Ocean convention, leading ocean-related research organizations from Japan will conduct sessions over a period of two days under the theme of ‘For Safe Oceans, Towards Productive Oceans’. Discussions will be held on ocean-related scientific technologies from a wide range of perspectives and interests such as fisheries, natural resources, disaster prevention, etc.
