The Committee on Engineering Accreditation Activities (CEAA) is responsible for implementing IEEE involvement in the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc., the accrediting agency for engineering programs in the United States.

 

CEAA functions and initiatives

female engineers planning in geothermal power stationTo serve this function, the CEAA recommends program specific criteria in IEEE fields of technical interest to ABET. The committee also recruits, helps train, and oversees the performance of IEEE members serving as ABET program evaluators (PEVs).

IEEE acts as the lead ABET society for programs in:

  • computer engineering
  • electrical engineering

The CEAA also provides PEVs to ABET for engineering programs seeking accreditation in fields such as:

  • controls engineering
  • optical engineering
  • power engineering
  • robotics engineering
  • telecommunications engineering
