EPICS Frequently Asked Questions

The purpose of the EPICS in IEEE program is to strengthen its position as a leader in pre-university student education while performing a public service to community-based non-profit organizations. The objective is to empower student branches and IEEE GOLD groups to work with high school students on engineering projects with the focus on development of devices and systems in IEEE’s fields of interest that address projects involving access and abilities; environment; education and outreach; or human services.

While there are many types of EPICS projects, EPICS in IEEE focuses on projects that are within IEEE's fields of interest and address one or more areas of interest such as education, access and abilities, human services or the environment. The projects must include engineering or computing design work.

EPICS in IEEE calls for the partnership of community partners and secondary schools to complete service-learning projects. Student branches should work with committed partners to identify projects that provide tangible solutions to the clients of the community partners and the local community. The partners along with the student branch members will work together to support the education of the students All EPICS partners are not-for-profit community organizations, educational or governmental agencies who are committed to working with university and pre-university students and agreed to support the project as needed.

The EPICS in IEEE initiative team will review your submission and will contact you within 30 days of receipt for either more information or with an acceptance or rejection notice.

If the project proposal and budget is accepted, the approach for remuneration will be handled on a section by section basis.
