IEEE STEP was developed to provide a standardized yet localized program for facilitating the transition from student member to young professional, by introducing the opportunities and benefits of IEEE membership during the onset of a career.

IEEE STEP program objectives

  • Identify a local IEEE entity beyond the student branch for members to contact.
  • Plan a joint Section and GOLD event to introduce local IEEE resources.
  • Illustrate IEEE member benefits appropriate for young professional members.
  • Identify recent IEEE Student members who have graduated with an undergraduate or graduate degree; help retaining members by capturing any change of address, email or other contact information.

Registering STEP events as vTools meetings

vTools is a tool for managing section and chapter meetings and is sponsored by IEEE Membership and Geographic Activities (MGA). MGA serves the needs of IEEE members by supporting IEEE Sections, Chapters, and Branches and is responsible for IEEE membership, and member development.

The vTools toolkit contains tools in various phases of development, from production, to pilots, to active development. One tool in the vTools toolkit can be used to register the STEP event as well as advertise and promote the event is outlined below.

Without the need for Web development, officers (IEEE reported Section and Affinity Group Chairs) can create meeting announcements using vTools and display them on your website. Members and the public may see and register for the upcoming meetings. This Tool is in production for your use.  We ask that you register your IEEE STEP event via this IEEE tool.
