National Instruments (NI) is offering IEEE student and graduate student members in the US and Canada a great deal on the purchase of LabVIEW for personal educational purposes.

NI LabVIEW is a powerful, industry-standard graphical development environment. Academic campuses worldwide use LabVIEW to deliver project-based learning.

What is LabVIEW?

LabVIEW is a graphical programming environment used by millions of engineers and scientists to develop measurement, test, and control systems using intuitive graphical icons and wires that resemble a flowchart. It offers unrivaled integration with thousands of hardware devices and provides hundreds of built-in libraries for advanced analysis and data visualization—all for creating virtual instrumentation. The LabVIEW platform is scalable across multiple targets and OSs and, since its introduction in 1986, has become an industry leader.
With the intuitive nature of the graphical programming environment, students can:
  • Visualize and explore theoretical concepts through interactive simulations and real-world signals
  • Design projects in applications such as measurement, control, embedded, signal processing, and communications
  • Compute, simulate, and devise solutions to homework problems

What is the LabVIEW Student Install Option?

The LabVIEW Student Install Option is an exclusive offer for IEEE members in US and Canada to purchase LabVIEW student development software for US$40. This option includes the most popular LabVIEW modules and toolkits as well as software upgrades throughout undergraduate enrollment in higher education for the one time fee. With the exclusive student discounted offer, members can save up to 98 percent off of product prices compared to industry prices (savings exceeding US$10,000).

One software license per student is allowed for each year of active IEEE student or graduate student membership. License terms require that software use is for personal educational purposes and not for any other purpose, including research, professional, commercial, or industrial. Students can obtain this software, including updates to the latest versions, as long as they are active IEEE or graduate student members.

Software included in the offer:

  • LabVIEW Student Edition
  • LabVIEW Control Design and Simulation Module
  • LabVIEW MathScript RT Module
  • LabVIEW System Identification Toolkit
  • LabVIEW Digital Filter Design Toolkit
  • NI Modulation Toolkit
  • LabVIEW SignalExpress
  • NI Vision Development Module
  • NI Vision Acquisition Software

LabVIEW Student Edition Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the LabVIEW Student Install Option?
IEEE students in US and Canada are eligible for this offer as long as they are active IEEE or graduate student members and enrolled in an accredited college or university located in the United States or Canada.

What are the differences between the LabVIEW Student Edition and LabVIEW Full Development System?
The LabVIEW Student Edition has all the features of the LabVIEW Full Development System, with one difference—the addition of a watermark. A watermark is on all LabVIEW panels (front panel and block diagram) and appears on any printouts of student edition VIs. If a student creates a VI at home using the LabVIEW Student Edition and then opens it on campus in the lab, the watermark disappears.

May I use the LabVIEW Student Edition on university computers or research labs?
No. The LabVIEW Student Edition is available to students, faculty, and staff for personal educational use only. It is not intended for research or institutional use.

Can I save VIs with the LabVIEW Student Edition?
Yes.

If I save my VIs in the LabVIEW Student Edition, are they compatible with the professional version of LabVIEW on campus?
Yes. All LabVIEW Student Edition VIs work with the professional version of the LabVIEW Full Development System and vice versa. Please note that VIs created and saved in a newer version do not open in older versions unless you choose the option Save for Previous. For example, if your university has LabVIEW 7.1 on campus and you have LabVIEW Student Edition Version 7.0, you must save the VI on campus for a previous version before it will open with LabVIEW 7.0.

Is there a restriction on how long a VI in the LabVIEW Student Edition executes?
No.

Where can I get technical support for the LabVIEW Student Edition?

Where can I find the Software License Agreement?
