The IEEE Presidents’ Change the World Competition recognizes and rewards students who identify a real-world problem and apply engineering, science, computing, and leadership skills to solve it. The contest offers students the perfect opportunity to have their ingenuity and enthusiasm for engineering and technology recognized by prestigious IEEE members around the globe.
Winners will receive awards ranging from the grand prize of US$10,000 and the distinction of being named "IEEE Student Humanitarian Supreme," to runner-up prizes of US$5,000, US$2,500, and US$1,000 awards. Winners of the top prize will also be invited to accept their awards in-person at the IEEE Honors Ceremony in June 2012.
The winners of the 2011 IEEEXtreme Presidents' Change the World Competition have been announced. The competition recognizes students who develop unique solutions to real-world problems using engineering, science, computing and leadership skills to benefit their community or humanity.
Over the course of several months, teams were asked to submit entries where they identified a problem and detailed how their project will positively impact a community or humanity. After two rounds of judging by IEEE Volunteers, the top 15 projects were sent to the IEEE Presidents' for a final round of judging.
This Grand Prize winner for 2011 is the PoaS@úde Telemedicine Project from UFRGS - Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. The winning team received their award at the 2011 IEEE Honors Ceremony in San Francisco, CA and a check for US$10,000.
IEEE Student and Graduate Student Members, take note.
IEEE and founding partners recently launched EngineeringforChange.org, an online platform that provides you with tools to collaboratively address humanitarian and global development challenges with other engineers, technologists, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Members of the Engineering for Change community, working together, will design, apply and share knowledge to develop technical solutions for humanitarian and global development challenges in local communities throughout the world.
