The winners of the 2012 IEEEXtreme Presidents' Change the World Competition have been announced. The competition recognizes students who develop unique solutions to real-world problems using engineering, science, computing, and leadership skills to benefit their community or humanity.
Over the course of several months, teams were asked to submit entries where they identified a problem and detailed how their project will positively impact a community or humanity. After two rounds of judging by IEEE Volunteers, the top 15 projects were sent to the IEEE Presidents for a final round of judging.
This Grand Prize winner for 2012 is the team Clean Water: Transforming a Natural Disaster into a Natural Resource, from the University of Oxford. The winning team received their award at the 2012 IEEE Honors Ceremony in Boston, MA, USA, and a check for US$10,000.
