IEEE offers a variety of competitions, locally, regionally, and globally, to IEEE student members and graduate student members.  Competitions offer students the opportunity to develop professionally and technically.  Many IEEE competitions provide a way for student members to connect to the global IEEE community and impact humanity through the creative application of technology and engineering.  Get involved, have fun, and take the challenge.  You might just win some prizes and recognition from your peers around the world.

Presidents' Change the World Competition

The submission deadline for the 2011 IEEE Presidents’ Change the World Competition is drawing near - submit your project between now and 31 January 2011.

Show how YOU can change the world by developing a unique solution to a real-world problem using engineering, technology, science, computing, and leadership skills to benefit your community or the world.  Tell us how you have made a positive impact for humanity and you can win.

Winners will receive awards ranging from the grand prize of U.S. $10,000 and the distinction of being named "IEEE Student Humanitarian Supreme," to runner-up prizes of U.S. $5,000, $2,500, and $1,000.  Winners of the top prize will also be invited to accept their award in-person at the IEEE Honors Ceremony in San Francisco, CA in August 2011.

IEEE-USA's Online Video Competition for Undergraduates

Show "How Engineers Make a World of Difference" by entering IEEE-USA's Online Video Competition for Undergraduates.

IEEE-USA will present four scholarship awards totaling U.S $5,000 to U.S. undergraduates who create the most effective 90-second video clips reinforcing for an 11-to-13-year old audience how engineers improve the world. Entries in the 2010-11 competition should provide an individual profile of an engineer or technology professional and how s/he makes “a world of difference.”

Application Deadline: 21 January 2011

2011 IEEE Computer Society Simulator Design Competition

IEEE Computer Society is presenting the 2011 Simulator Design Competition for students worldwide with a top prize of U.S. $8,000 and a second place prize of U.S. $2,000. Student teams will be invited to design a CPU simulator, a program used in many architecture courses to illustrate how computers work.  The competition requires that students have taken a course in architecture and have both programming and software engineering skills. Student teams will submit both a report and a working program at the end of the competition.

Registration deadline:  18 January 2011

Student paper contests

IEEE Societies offer students the opportunity to submit papers to recognize technical, written, and verbal communication skills.  These paper contests offer students the opportunity to showcase their technical knowledge through recognition and awards.  Frequently, students are invited to attend and present their paper at a conference sponsored by the Society, exposing students to the technical community beyond the university.  The ability to network with experienced professionals in the industry is invaluable when students begin their job search following graduation.  Review the paper contest offerings by IEEE Societies and Regions and submit a paper today.
