Free IEEE-USA eBook Offered as Special Benefit to IEEE Members
As a special benefit of IEEE Membership for the month of January, IEEE-USA is offering a free eBook, Starting Your Start-Up – Book 1: Developing a Business Plan by Tanya Candia.

Developing a Business Plan The Starting Your Startup eBook series is designed for the engineer or entrepreneur who has a great product or service idea, but no real marketing expertise. Book 1: Developing a Business Plan, shows you how to develop an initial business plan that contains just enough information to get started. It will help you define your concept clearly and concisely, build an effective elevator pitch, communicate your product and company positioning, and identify your critical success factors.

One of the topics included in the eBook is, “What are You Getting Yourself Into?” Candia shares that owning a business can be the most exciting, rewarding thing you will ever do, but it can also be frustrating, costly and risky. In this section, she asks a few questions for the reader to think about, such as “Am I willing to take directions from others – such as investors?” and “What is my fall-back plan, if the business doesn’t succeed?”

Other topics include:
  • The Blueprint for Success;
  • Fine-Tuning Your Two-to-Four Page Business Plan;
  • Funding; and
  • Next Steps.
Members can download Starting Your Start-Up – Book 1: Developing a Business Plan for free through 31 January 2013. Non-member price is US$9.99.

In February, the IEEE-USA free eBook will be Technical Presentations - Book 3: Style – Dynamic Delivery Techniques written by Nita K. Patel. Information on how to download this eBook will be available in the February issue of the Member Benefits Bulletin.
