Hoover Medal Presentation
|
IEEE President and CEO Roberto de Marca presented the 66th Hoover Medal to Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniak in Los Angeles, CA on 17 February 2014 during a special reception with the IEEE Board of Directors.
Mr. Wozniak gave a brief talk expressing his gratitude for recognition of his contributions to humanitarian efforts, not just his technological advancements. He also stressed the importance of education, particularly outside of the classroom through volunteerism and practical experience.
The Hoover Medal is administered by a board representing five engineering organizations: the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; the American Society of Civil Engineers; the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers; and IEEE. It was established in 1929 to recognize great, unselfish, non-technical services by engineers to humanity.
