Free IEEE-USA eBook Offered as Special Benefit to IEEE Members

As a special benefit of IEEE Membership for the month of May, IEEE-USA is offering a free eBook, Educating 21st Century Engineers by Dr. James Gover and Dr. Paul Huray.

Communicating With Congress IEEE Fellow Dr. James Gover and Dr. Paul Huray, both IEEE members, co-authored Educating 21st Century Engineers to bring an awareness of the declining interest that U.S. students have in a career in engineering, which is evident in the decline of U.S.-born student enrollments in undergraduate and graduate engineering programs.

Gover and Huray advocate for the federal government to declare engineering a public good, and for corporations to fill a major role in engineering education - as engineers invent, improve, design and manage the production of technology that drives much of our U.S. economy.

Members can download Educating 21st Century Engineers for free through 31 May 2014. Non-member price is US$5.99.

Face-to-face networking along with online networking has become essential to filling open positions with the correct people. Kim Brown and Don Herres presented a webinar last year on using LinkedIn; Building Your Online Resume. Now come hear them discuss how hiring managers are using LinkedIn to Find the Right People.

Business Models and Value Propositions: Identifying Member Needs and How to Meet Them
5 June 2014
2:00 pm EDT

On 5 June 2014 at 2:00 pm EDT IEEE-USA is providing a great presentation for IEEE Section and Region leaders. Business Models and Value Propositions: Identifying Member Needs and How to Meet Them will cover how an IEEE Section can identify members' unmet needs and how it can meet those needs by using the Value Proposition Canvas and Business Model Canvas. The Value Proposition Canvas identifies and provides an understanding of customer needs and what will meet those needs. The Business Model Canvas describes how to create a Section's value proposition, the infrastructure that creates it and associated costs. The resulting business model provides a context to discuss its components, interactions between components, and tradeoffs between delivering the value proposition and cost.
