Free IEEE-USA eBook Offered as Special Benefit to IEEE Members

As a special benefit of IEEE Membership through 15 January, IEEE-USA is offering a free eBook, Leading and Managing Engineering and Technology – Book 3: Building a Culture that Develops Leaders and Managers, written by Gerard H. (Gus) Gaynor.

Book 3 Gaynor shares that developing an organization that fosters leadership is both simple and complex, depending on what’s involved.

Topics included in Leading and Managing Engineering and Technology – Book 3: Building a Culture that Develops Leaders and Managers are:
  • The Basic Organizational Culture
  • Building a Leadership Culture
  • Case Study: IBM’s Silverlake Project
The case study provides an example of how an entire culture can be transformed, and what happens when a project manager takes personal initiatives, asks questions, listens to the responses, and builds trust among team members. Gaynor cautions that such a transformation takes hard work and cooperation from many people to make it happen.

Members can download Leading and Managing Engineering & Technology – Book 3 for free through 15 January 2015. Sign in with your IEEE Account, add the book to your Cart, and enter the promo code DECFREE at checkout.

IEEE History Center

IEEE members have played a huge role in shaping IEEE’s institutional history. Their careers and service to the Institute encompass a set of invaluable and unique knowledge. The IEEE Archives is one of the IEEE History Center’s most important activities in preserving the history and institutional memory of IEEE. The archives’ main function is to act as a permanent repository for institutional records. The oldest documents in the archives date back to the American Civil War and the IEEE History Center. All material in the archives is on a permanent retention schedule. The History Center is able to use these documents as an information source for historical questions, and routinely handles reference and research requests.

Most of the Center's resources are available online at the Engineering and Technology History Wiki.

If any member would like to make an appointment to see the archives or have a research question the IEEE History Center may be able to help with, email Nathan Brewer.
