IEEE Faraday Lecture

FaradayThe Faraday Lecture provides a realistic context for the work of engineers and the fascinating world of science and high technology, both now and in the future. It is a unique and spectacular educational event, organized annually by the IEE in partnership with a presenting body. It was founded in 1924 to commemorate the life and work of Michael Faraday, whose work laid the foundation for many of today?s advances in technology. From his experiments came devices which led directly to the modern electric motor, generator and transformer. Faraday was also the greatest scientific lecturer of his day, who did much to publicize the great advances of nineteenth-century science and technology through his articles, correspondence and the Friday evening discourses which he established at the Royal Institution.

The Lecture has a tradition of presenting cutting edge technology in exciting and interactive presentations. Eight years ago, the IEEE Educational Activities Board began facilitating the downlink for students throughout North America. The lecture has become a mainstay of introducing engineering concepts. The 2002 audience was nearly two million people. For more information about Michael Faraday, Celeste Torres.
