A Chinese EMC trade delegation visited the United
States over November 9-21, 2005 to tour EMC related companies
and facilities. Originally invited by the 2005 IEEE International
Symposium on EMC steering committee during the recent symposium
in Chicago, logistics problems prevented the delegation from attending
the symposium at that time.
The delegation, sponsored by the America and China Marketing Promotion
Association, consisted of EMC professionals from all walks of
industry, commerce, education, and technical societies from China,
including the China Electrotechnical Society, Wahan High Voltage
Research Institute, The Center for Space Science and Applied Research,
China Academy of Science, Beijing Jiaotong University, China Ship
Development and Design Center, and the Shanghai Electric Power
Design Institute.
The purpose of the visit was to familiarize the Chinese officials
with EMC related products, services, business practices, and technical
liaisons in the United States. The delegation is very interested
in establishing EMC related relationships and developing cooperation
between the two countries in areas such as investment, product
marketing, and technology in the EMC field.
Among the companies the delegation visited was D.L.S. Electronic
Systems, Inc., a Wheeling, Illinois based EMC testing and consulting
company. The delegation was able to review the workings of a large
EMC testing laboratory, with various capabilities in the area
of EMC testing, including FCC, CE, RTCA, and other global EMC
testing standards.
During the visit, Don Sweeney, founder of D.L.S. Electronic Systems,
founding member of the US Council of Independent Laboratories,
and member of the IEEE EMC Society Board of Directors, provided
a technical presentation on the merits of US testing laboratories
to various testing requirements, including but not limited to
US, Canadian, and European, and the advantages of joining the
IEEE for professional knowledge and development. EMC
