LEOS has recently received approval from the IEEE for the establishment of a new award entitled ARON KRESSEL LEOS AWARD. This award was established to recognize those individuals who have made important contributions to Opto-Electronic Device Technology. The device technology cited is to have had a significant impact by their application in major practical systems. This new award compliments LEOS other awards by emphasizing technology which has found its way into widespread usage. LEOS other awards include; the Quantum Electronics Award, LEOS premier award, for recognizing accomplishments that have had a major impact on Quantum Electronics, Lasers and Electro-Optics; the William Streifer Scientific Achievement Award for exceptional scientific contribution in the past 10 years in Lasers & Electro-Optics; the Engineering Achievement Award for exceptional engineering contributions to laser and electro-optics within the past 10 years; and the Distinguished Service Award for exceptional individual contribution of service that has benefited the LEOS membership.
