| Jonathan Heritage and Andrew Weiner received the IEEE/LEOS
William Scientific Achievement Award, for pioneering contributions to femtosecond
optical pulse shaping technology and its applications. |
Frederick Kish, Jr. was the recipient of this years Engineering Achievement Award, presented to him, for seminal contributions to high performance light-emitting diode technology and production. | The LEOS Distinguished Service Award was presented to Edward Labuda for his years of dedicated service as LEOS Executive Director and his work in establishing and fostering improved management practice in the Societys affairs. |

The LEOS99 Best Student Paper Awards was presented to Iannois Tomkos, University of Athens for this paper on Highly Performing Wavelength Converter Based on Dual Pump Wave Mixing in Semiconductor Optical Amplifier. Recipients receive a $500 honorarium and certificate.
