Chang was also the 2002 president of IEEE/LEOS, and Yu is also IEEE Fellow. On the recommendation of NCTU faculty Chang was bestowed the “Title of Honorary Professor in Incubating Photonics Companies”, particularly to honor Chang’s enlightening vision and role in optoelectronics entrepreneurship; Yu was bestowed the “Title of Honorary Professor in Optical Information Processing and Computing”, particularly to respect Yu’s pioneering and leading works in optics research and education.

On the date, NCTU also invited 360 high school students to attend the ceremony to learn the Honorary Professors’ elegant manners. In return, the two Fellows shared with the young minds their wisdom and visions. In his talk, “Opportunities Unlimited”, Chang talked about profile of a successful individual, the careers in photonics, career models, learning, working, and living. Then he encouraged the young men to attain depth and breadth, and reach out to seize the moment. Finally, Chang honored his wife Rosalind, by telling the youths that, most important of all, is marry to a capable and supportive wife. Then, Yu talked to the youths to “Share a Few Thoughts”. He first described his views on constructive intelligence such as broad minded, create trust and full of compassion, and views on destructive intelligence such as narrow minded, trust nobody and selfishness etc. Then, Yu talked about characteristics of two groups of science and technology: mono-body sciences such as theoretical physics, mathematics and philosophy, and multi-body sciences such as technological researches and industrial management. Finally, he encouraged the youths to be open minded and take full-scaled learning by pointing out usefulness of what we have learned and efficiency of knowledge-base learning. Both wives of the Honorary Professors, Rosalind Chang and Lucy Yu, were present at the ceremony and enjoyed the event.
