CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS

Hampton Roads Chapter

The Hampton Roads Chapter is located in Norfolk, Virginia and encompasses regions of Southeastern Virginia. We are a small chapter consisting of approximately 50 members from the universities, national laboratories and some industries in the region.

The Hampton Roads area includes the geographically contiguous cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Chesapeake. It also includes the cities of Hampton and Newport News, which are located across the peninsula.

The Chapter draws its members form Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University (both in Norfolk) and Hampton University (in Hampton). We also have some members from NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton and the Jefferson National Laboratory in Newport News.

Our activities have included presentations given to us by two LEOS Distinguished Lecturers. Professor Xi-Cheng Zhang gave his lecture on Free Space THz Electronics on Friday, Feb 19, 1999. On Friday, March 19, 1999, Professor James Coleman gave his lecture on Novel Integrable Semiconductor Laser Structures. Both lectures generated a lot of interest in the audience, which also included about 30 graduate students form the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Old Dominion University. The chapter is very grateful to these speakers for sharing their state-of -the art knowledge with us.
