Awards and Recognitions at LEOS 2002 |

A special Awards Ceremony
will be held on Monday evening at the LEOS Annual Meeting. The following
awards will be presented during the ceremony:
The IEEE/LEOS William Streifer Scientific Achievement
Award will be presented to James Fujimoto for pioneering contributions
to optical coherence tomography. Jim Hsieh will be presented the
Aron Kressel Award for pioneer development of 1300nm GaInAsP diode
lasers for fiber optic communications application and entrepreneurial
leadership Timothy Day will be presented the Engineering Achievement
Award for contributions to the development and commercialization
of external cavity tunable diode lasers for telecommunications.
This years LEOS Distinguished Service Award will be presented
to Concetto Giuliano for continuous professional service to LEOS,
with special contributions to conferences and meetings and through his
leadership as President.
The Moscow Chapter has been voted Chapter-of-the-Year.
Other LEOS chapter awards will be presented to Turkey for Most
Improved Chapter, Italian Chapter for Most Innovative Chapter,
and the Ukraine Chapter for Chapter with Largest Membership Increase.
The 2001-2002 Distinguished Lecturers: James Baird,
Milton Chang, Kent Choquette, Dennis Deppe, Rick Trebino will be recognized
for their service to the Society. Recognition as elected members of
the LEOS Board of Governors will be given to Peter Delfyett, Ursula
Keller, Steve Newton, Katsunari Okamoto.
LEOS 2001 Best Student Paper Award will be presented
to Oleg Sinkin and Alan P.S. Chang.
