Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday evening at the LEOS Annual Meeting.
The following awards will be presented during the ceremony:
The IEEE/LEOS William Streifer Scientific Achievement Award will be
presented to Emmanuel Desurvire, “for pioneering contributions
to the physical and theoretical understanding of erbium-doped fiber
amplifiers and their early device development.” The Aron Kressel
Award will be presented to J. Gary Eden, “for sustained contributions
to the development of ultraviolet coherent and incoherent sources, and
to excimer lasers and microplasma devices.” Rajaram Bhat and Chung-En
Zah will be presented with the Engineering Achievement Award, “for
pioneering work on the AlGaInAs/InP strained quantum well lasers for
uncooled applications.” And this year’s LEOS Distinguished
Service Award will be presented to Fred Leonberger, “for sustained
and broad leadership of LEOS activities, with special distinction in
governance and conference management.”
The Central New England Chapter has been voted “Chapter-of-the-Year.”
Other LEOS chapter awards will be presented to the Scottish Chapter
for “Chapter with Largest Membership Increase,” the Sacramento
Chapter for “Most Improved Chapter,” and the Baltimore Chapter
for “Most Innovative Chapter.”
The 2004-2005 Distinguished Lecturers J. Gary Eden, Dieter Jaeger, Chennupati
Jagadish, Bahram Javidi, and Susumu Noda will be recognized for their
service to the Society. Recognition as elected members of the LEOS Board
of Governors will be given to Roel Baets, Nadir Dagli, Mary Y. Lanzerotti,
and Yuzo Yoshikuni.
