This issue features our Eighth Annual Special Issue of the LEOS Newsletter. This year, the Special Issue contains articles by invited speakers at the LEOS Summer Topical on “Free Space Communication Techniques for Optical Networks”. The Chair of this Summer Topical is Dr. Scott A. Hamilton inthe Optical Communications Technology Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Lexington, MA. The fourteen articles in this Special Issue are written by the invited speakers at the Summer Topical.
In this issue, we present a Profile of LEOS President-Elect Alan Willner, who is a professor at the University of Southern California. We also announce the 2005 LEOS Graduate Student Fellows and present highlights of activities at the LEOS Italian Chapter and the LEOS Thailand Chapter.
