Paul Corkum (left) received the 2005 Quantum Electronics Award, “for pioneering contributions to the development of femtosecond and attosecond science”. The award was presented to Dr. Corkum by H. Scott Hinton, LEOS President.

Pierre Tournois received the 2005 IEEE David Sarnoff Award, “for pioneering contributions to pulse compression devices and the invention of the Acousto-Optic Programmable Dispersive Filter”. The award was presented to Dr. Tournois by H. Scott Hinton, LEOS President.

H. Scott Hinton recognized Doyeol Ahn, Filbert J. Bartoli, Mohammed Nazul Islam, and Jerry Meyer, newly elected to the grade of IEEE Fellow. Dr. Ahn (second from left) received recognition, “for contributions to the theory of semiconductor quantum-well lasers and the development of quantum information communications research”. Dr. Bartoli (second from right) received recognition, “for leadership in optoelectronic materials and devices”. Dr. Islam (center) received recognition, “for contributions to optical fiber based nonlinear devices and their applications in telecommunication networks”. And Dr. Meyer (far left) received recognition, “for contributions to semiconductor optoelectronics.”
