David M. Hiemstra was elected Junior Member-at-Large, Radiation Effects Steering Group (RESG) during the annual Open Meeting on July 27, 2000, of the 2000 Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference (NSREC). David received his B.Eng. & Mgt., and M. Eng. Degrees (electrical) from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1984 and 1993, respectively. His graduate work dealt with bio-medical instrumentation.

He joined the Defense Systems Division of SPAR Aerospace Ltd. in 1984 as an Analog Circuit Designer. He is presently with MDRobotics, as a Staff Engineer, in the Advanced Systems Group. He has designed circuit card assemblies, hybrid microelectronics, and integrated circuits for various programs. He has worked on a wide range of programs such as the Infrared Surveillance Systems AN/SAR-8 and SIRIUS, the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (Fusion), the Mobile Servicing System of the International Space Station and the Shuttle Remote Manipulator System. His research presently focuses on Single Event Effects behavior of advanced commercial off the shelf integrated circuits and electronic sub-systems.

  He has authored or co-authored 11 publications in the area of radiation effects on semiconductor devices and integrated circuits. David served as Session Chair, Devices and Integrated Circuits, for the 2000 IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference. He has been a reviewer for NSREC and IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science. He lives in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada with his wife, Julie, and daughter, Carly.
