HELP THE COALITION FOR
PLASMA SCIENCE
Gerald L. Rogoff |
The IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society is a member a very supportive member of the Coalition for Plasma Science (CPS), an organization working to increase public awareness and understanding of plasma science and its benefits for society. The audience for the Coalitions various activities includes the media, the education community and government policy-makers.
The Coalition for Plasma Science needs your help. The Coalition has initiated a series of educational luncheon presentations on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC for Members of Congress and Congressional staff. CPS needs your suggestions for dynamic speakers who can communicate effectively with nontechnical audiences about various areas of plasma science and technology. The Coalition welcomes names of people from academia, industry, government laboratories, or elsewhere who might participate either as individual presenters or members of topical panels.
Each presentation is intended to introduce in a general and nonparochial manner an important part of the field of plasma science. Future plasma-related topics may include industrial applications of plasmas, plasmas and the environment, energy production, and plasmas in space. Your suggestions for other topics are also welcome.
While plasma science and its many applications make significant contributions to society and to the quality of our lives, this exciting and rapidly progressing field of science is poorly understood or appreciated by those outside the field. The Coalition for Plasma Science is working to change this situation. Members of the Coalition include many well known universities, national laboratories, professional organizations, companies and individuals with a wide range of plasma science interests. You can find out more about CPS at its web site: http:// www.plasmacoalition.org/.
If you have suggestions for potential speakers or topics, or would like additional information about the Coalition or the Capitol Hill events, please contact Gerald Rogoff, CPS Chairman and IEEE NPSS Liaison to the Coalition, at 508-879-5662 or g.rogoff@ieee.org .
