| When this newsletter is published in June, the 16th Real Time Conference (RT-2009) will already be over (May 10 to May 15). This year the conference is hosted by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) in Beijing. The general chair of the conference is Professor Yifang Wang, associate director of the institute. He is assisted by Professor Yantai Shu, from the Tianjin University, co-chair of the conference, and by Professor Zhen’An Liu, chair of the local organizing committee. This is the first time NPSS will have held a conference in China, and the response from participants has been very positive, even in the unfavourable context of the present economic situation. A very important event during the RT conference is the presentation of the CANPS prize. This prize is given in recognition of individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the application of computers in nuclear and plasma sciences. This year, the prize is awarded to Sergio Cittolin from CERN, a very prestigious scientist in the data acquisition field.
