CONFERENCES

8th International Conference on Accelerator and Large Experimental Physics Control Systems

San Jose, California, USA
November 27-30, 2001

We invite you, on behalf of Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), Stanford University, the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS), and the European Physical Society Interdivisional Group on Experimental Physics Control Systems (EPCS), to the eighth biennial International Conference on Accelerator and Large Experimental Physics Control Systems, ICALEPCS 2001. ICALEPCS is held with the technical cosponsorship of the IEEE NPSS. Other cooperating organizations are: EPS, the European Physical Society; APS, the American Physical Society; IFIP, the International Federation for Information Processing; and IFAC, the International Federation of Automatic Control.

Rusty Humphrey
Conference Chair

The Conference will be held at the elegant Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley. All those involved worldwide in the field of controls and having an interest in the challenging aspects of large experimental and research facilities should participate and contribute to the conference. The scientific program will cover the fields of control and operation of particle accelerators, detectors, telescopes, fusion devices, nuclear reactors and other large experimental facilities.  Both hardware and software aspects of control systems will be addressed.

The conference program consists of invited and contributed talks, poster sessions, seminars, round-table discussions, industrial presentations and post-conference workshops. Other conference activities will include tours of SLAC and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) as well as an Industrial Exhibition reflecting relevant technologies from Silicon Valley and around the world.

ICALEPCS 2001 will emphasize the important role of control systems in the success of large experimental and research projects. The participants in ICALEPCS 2001 will report on novel and innovative approaches to control system design, implementation and operation as well as the management of such projects to peers from research centers and universities from around the world. Attendees will learn of related solutions and ideas from experts in the field and, from scientific collaborations studying existing problems or planning future advances in large scale controls systems and related fields (e.g., high speed networking, widely distributed system design, software and hardware engineering).

Highlights of the Conference are given below; complete details are provided at: http://icalepcs2001.slac.stanford.edu.
