Resort and Marina in Vancouver, BC, Canada, during the 2001 Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference (NSREC). The meeting included reports from the chairmen of the 2000 through 2002 NSRECs.
An election was held during the Open Meeting for Junior Member-at-Large to the Radiation Effects Steering Group (RESG). The RESG welcomes Janet Barth of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center as its newly elected Junior Member-at-Large.
During the Open Meeting, Dale Platteter introduced the new member of RESG. Dan Fleetwood of Vanderbilt University was appointed as 2004 Conference General Chairman. Jim Kinnison of Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Labs was honored with an award for 3 years of service as Member-at-Large.
Ron Pease of RLP Research, 2000 Conference General Chairman, recognized each member of his committee with an award plaque.
Marty Shaneyfelt of Sandia National Laboratories, 2001 Conference General Chairman, summarized attendance statistics from the 2001 conference.
Ken Hunt, 2002 Conference General Chairman, announced that the 2002 Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference will be held 15-19 July 2002, at the Pointe South Mountain Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. Paul Dressendorfer of Sandia National Laboratories is organizing the tutorial Short Course. The Technical Program Chairman will be Tom Turflinger of NAVSEA Crane. Once again, NSREC 2002 is planning a Radiation Effects Data Workshop and an Industrial Exhibit. An excellent social program is being assembled by Local Arrangements Chairman Jeff Black of Mission Research Corporation.
NSREC is planning to republish the CD-ROM Archive of Radiation Effects Short Course Notebooks in 2002. This CD has proven to be a valuable resource for teachers, students, and engineering professionals studying the effects of nuclear radiation on electronics, satellites, and space systems. The new CD will represent a complete collection of 23 years of NSREC short course notebooks (1980- 2002). It will be made available to attendees of the 2002 Short Course in Phoenix, as part of the registration fee. The current plan is to update this CD-ROM every 4 years.
