MAYRANT SIMONS RECEIVES THE 2008 NSREC
RADIATION EFFECTS AWARD

Mayrant Simons started his space career in 1961 when he joined Bell Telephone Labs in Greensboro, NC as an Electrical Design Engineer. In 1966 he moved to RTI International RTP, NC. Mayrant has had a sustained 46 year history of outstanding technical and leadership contributions in the Radiation Effects Community. His involvement spans from basic radiation damage mechanism research to DTRA Chair of technology development programs.
Mayrant has held a number of volunteer positions in support of the NSREC (1992 Chairman), NPSS and the HEART Conference (General Chair 1989).
Mayrant has been the author or co-author of 36 papers appearing in the IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, Journal of Applied Physics, Government Microcircuit Application Conference Digest, IEEE Photovoltaic Conference Proceedings, IEEE Electron Device Letters, IEEE GaAs IC Symposium, Military Microwaves Conference Proceedings, Transactions of the American Nuclear Society, Journal of Radiation Effects and the IEEE Radiation Effects Data Workshop record.
His citation reads: For contributions to the dissemination and advancement of radiation effects research associated with hardened systems for space applications.
