June 17-22, 2001

The Plasma Science & Applications Committee and the Pulsed Power Science and Technology Committee of the NPSS invite our members and colleagues to join us in Las Vegas, Nevada, for a special technical event. Pulsed Power/Plasma Science 2001 will combine in one exciting, week-long technical program the best of the IEEE Pulsed Power Conference and the IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science. PPPS-2001 will provide a unique opportunity for our communities to share the latest scientific and technical progress.
The Rio Hotel & Convention Center will be the venue for the combined conferences. The Rio is conveniently situated just one block west of "The Strip" near Caesar's Palace. From the cool waters of Lake Mead in the east to the towering peaks of Red Rock Canyon to the west, the Las Vegas Valley is surrounded by scenic wonders. In the middle of it all, you'll find the neon lights of a city that is fast becoming the top vacation and business destination in the world. With an average annual rainfall of 4.13 inches and humidity that hovers around 29%, the climate is classified as arid. Look for temperatures in June to reach 98° during the day and cooling to 68° at night.
The conference program will include oral sessions for five days and four poster sessions. Oral sessions will include both invited and contributed papers and poster sessions will be presented in dedicated conference time to allow full participation by all participants.
The conference will feature both commercial exhibits and a placement center to provide an opportunity for prospective employers to meet with interested job applicants.
The conference will continue the practice of both constituent conferences in making awards to recognize outstanding individual contributions to the field of Plasma Science (the PSAC Award); outstanding contributions to pulsed power technology by an individual over an extended period of time (the Erwin Marx Award); outstanding contributions to pulsed power technology resulting from an individual's continued effort to develop programs of research, education, and information exchange that are the basis for progress in pulsed power (the Peter Haas Award); and outstanding students in pulsed power engineering sponsored by Maxwell Physics International.
