Pulsed Power/Plasma Science-2001 (PPPS-2001)

13th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference (PPC)

28th International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS)

The Plasma Science & Applications Committee (PSAC) and the Pulsed Power Science & Technology Committee (PPS&T) of the IEEE Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) cordially invite you to join us for a truly historical and memorable meeting. The meeting setting will be at the New Rio Pavilion & Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 17–22, 2001.

For the first time, this weeklong technical conference will combine the traditional ICOPS and PPC conferences into a single event, featuring four and a half days of stimulating oral, poster, and plenary sessions. The Conference has a single organization, registration, and administration; a single social program and companions program; and invites all participants to attend any of the technical sessions. The list of Technical Areas and Individual Topics, along with a growing family of conference information, is available at http://www.ieee.org/ppps2001. The technical program will represent a blend of traditional ICOPS and PPC topics. PPC attendees will note some changes in procedures for submitting abstracts and in the activities of the Technical Program Committee. ICOPS attendees should note that the conference will publish Conference Proceedings providing an opportunity for publishing your Conference manuscript.

The First Announcement has been mailed to the combined mailing lists from both ICOPS and PPC. A copy of the First Announcement is also available from the Conference Secretary at ppps@lanl.gov . The Final Announcement & Call for Papers will be mailed directly in the October–November 2000 timeframe. To ensure that you receive a copy of the Call for Papers, please fill out the "Show of Interest" form on our web site at http://www.ieee.org/ppps2001   prior to October 1, 2000. Registrations and abstracts will be accepted starting October 2000; until then send email directly to the Conference Secretary at ppps@lanl.gov. Early registration deadline is May 1, 2001.

We are planning for a greatly expanded role for exhibitors compared to previous ICOPS and PPC meetings. Conference facilities at the Rio will feature generous exhibit space and we welcome applications from potential exhibitors and suggestions from our community about exhibitors whom we should invite. The exhibit booths will be conveniently located in the same huge Exhibit Hall as our refreshment area and adjacent to the Poster areas. This will help insure maximum access to exhibits. Exhibits will be available beginning Sunday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon, June 17–20. Point of contact for exhibits is Tom Spencer at Thomas.Spencer@kirtland.af.mil.

The Rio Hotel in Las Vegas is the official Conference hotel. All of the Rio’s standard suites feature 600 square feet of spacious living and all the amenities of a first class hotel including floor to ceiling windows, conversational lounge area, and panoramic view. The Rio has a 120,000 square foot casino; an exciting nightclub; health facilities; and a recently remodeled spa with steam rooms, whirlpools, and massage. At the Rio’s famous Ipanema Beach, lounging upon real sand beaches at the edge of a tropical lagoon, you are surrounded by cascading waterfalls, four swimming pools, and five Jacuzzi-style spas. From the elegant country French cuisine at the Napa, to lox and bagels at the Star Deli and Bakery, and everything in between, the Rio’s 18 restaurants offer limitless variety including a sumptuous seafood buffet with fish flown in daily. At the Rio’s Masquerade Village, over 20 specialty shops and an arcade with over 50 games will hold your interest while you wait for the Rio’s spectacular Masquerade Show in the Sky – a Mardi Gras parade suspended from the hotel ceiling featuring live musical talent, flying circus, and stiltwalkers. The Rio offers countless other activities from the musical extravaganza starring David Cassidy, "At the Copa," to the VooDoo Lounge on the 51st floor with a breathtaking view of Las Vegas and live music. The new auditorium houses extravagant musical productions changing periodically. Check back later to find out what’s playing in June 2001.

For those who have not visited Las Vegas recently, you will be delighted with your experience of the "new" Las Vegas – an ideal vacation spot for visitors of all ages, young families, and professional persons as well.
