AdCom Report
The SSCS Administrative Committee (AdCom)
met 9 February 2003 in San Francisco prior to the ISSCC. At the meeting
the AdCom endorsed the continued technical cosponsorship of a number
of important circuit-related specialty conferences: the Integrated Circuit
Computer-Aided Design Conference (ICCAD), the International Symposium
on Low-Power Electronic Design Conference (ISLPED), RF Integrated Circuits
Conference (RFIC), Design Automation Conference (DAC), and the Asian
Pacific Application-Specific Integrated Circuit Conference (AP-ASIC).
See the events calendar for dates and URLs
of these conferences. The SSCS is not participating financially in these
conferences but looks forward to publicizing calls for papers, promoting
these events among our members, and contributing to the technical success
of these meetings.
The AdCom also approved Ian Young as the Program Vice-Chair of ISSCC
2004. The members agreed to authorize the Society's Long-Range Planning
Committee to spend up to $20,000 in 2003 for an invitational forum on
organic electronics.
The page budget of the JSSC has been adjusted slightly for 2004 to an
even 2,000 pages. A page budget, planned in advance by all IEEE transactions
and journals, is an important management step to ensure cost-effective
staffing levels and contracting of printing services by IEEE headquarters.
But the actual page outcome of a full year of JSSC issues is
dependent on the quality of papers submitted and the results of peer
review. AdCom members commended Bernhard Boser for making quality editorial
decisions.
The AdCom agreed to continue with the annual CD of the past two years
of the JSSC. A new DVD compilation of legacy articles of ISSCC,
VLSI Circuits Symposium, and JSSC through to the year 2002 has been
produced and is available.* The intersociety subscription rate for the
JSSC was set at $30 for 2004. Intersociety rates allow IEEE members
the opportunity to subscribe to the JSSC without becoming SSCS
members.
Lastly, the AdCom gave the Chapters Committee the right to spend up
to their budgeted amount in subsidies to chapters. With this new delegation
of authority, the deadline for subsidy applications will be moved up
to 1 September, allowing better coordination for joint chapters. Approved
chapter subsidy checks will be issued to chapters early in January.
