IEEE Broadcast Technology Society Tutorial
Preliminary Program (subject to change)
“Proposed ATSC Mobile/Handheld Systems”
NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference
Saturday, 12 April 2008
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Las Vegas, NV USA
The ATSC has begun evaluating backward-compatible proposals for delivery of services to mobile and handheld devices using DTV broadcast signals. Work is progressing toward a target completion date for a proposed standard in the first quarter of 2009, so that broadcasters can announce new ATSC-based mobile/handheld services before the end of analog service in February 2009. There are three joint proposals under consideration, each comprising the Physical, Management, and Presentation layers of a complete system. In addition to these full-system proposals, there are three other proposals covering portions of systems.
This tutorial session will focus on the three full-system proposals and will be presented by the engineers responsible for the design, test, and implementation of these systems. It is organized by the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society and is intended to complement and serve as background for the panel and papers scheduled for the Sunday session of the Broadcast Engineering Conference on “DTV Broadcasting for Mobile and Handheld.”
