General Information

Victoria, BC - Cananda

Victoria, also known as The Garden City, is British Columbia's scenic capital, a beautiful coastal city of more than 300,000 people situated on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Cascading with flowers and laced with British propriety, Greater Victoria is a place of endless attractions and exceeding beauty.

Victoria benefits from one of Canada's mildest climates, which allows you to enjoy some of the country's most exhilarating scenery all year round. Great views are a happy fact of life in Greater Victoria - mountains, sweeps of island-dotted ocean and beautiful gardens are just par for the course on urban, waterfront walkways. And you needn't travel far for sweeping vistas of the whole region: a number of trails to mountain- summit viewpoints are less than a half-hour's drive from city center.

Downtown Victoria offers a number of excellent shopping opportunities. So many artists and artisans call this place home that unusual and one-of-a-kind items are everywhere. Art, crafts and foodstuffs made by local First Nations peoples are also widely available. What's more, Victoria has a love-affair with all things British: scores of shops specialize in imported British wares, textiles or food. And don't miss Chinatown, the 2nd oldest in North America (after San Francisco).

From elegant English tearooms to swinging jazz spots, fine food is everywhere. With over 600 restaurants in the Victoria area, there's a dining experience to suit everyone's tastes. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and bordered by the farms of the Saanich Peninsula, Victoria chefs specialize in using local ingredients, with worldly results.

Looking to experience the delights of afternoon tea? You are in luck - the British brought afternoon tea to Victoria in the 19th century and locals have been enthusiastically upholding the custom ever since. Tearooms all over the city serve afternoon tea in quaint, intimate environments.

Tea not your thing? Try the local favorite British Style fish and chips. Or make your way to Canada’s oldest brewpub, Spinnakers.

Not sure where to start - take a tour. With horse-drawn carriages, double-decker buses, inner harbour ferries, and even bike-pedaled Kabuki Kabs eager to show you all Victoria has to offer, getting around in Victoria is as simple as the wave of a hand. Most guides will even let you in on the local secrets..
