Welcome to Nice!!

Following the success of the CLEO/Europe®-EQEC meetings in Amsterdam in 1994, Hamburg in 1996 and in Glasgow in 1998, the CLEO/Europe®-IQEC 2000 Conferences will be held in Nice. The combined conferences will bring together scientists and engineers from academia and industry, as well as end-users of products based on lasers and photonics technology, at the heart of one of Europe's most celebrated regions of natural beauty, which is also open to new technologies through several famous private and public research centres.

The Conference of Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO) and the International Quantum Electronics Conference (IQEC) reflect two strong simbiotic research traditions, and provide a joint forum for discussions of recent advances and informative reviews of a wide spectrum of topics ranging from development, system engineering and applications in industry, science and medicine. Two plenary talks and five tutorial presentations by outstabnding and renowned speakers will highlight some of the essential research trends in the domain. A special session has been scheduled on laser and electro-optics related topics of the Eurpoean Community 5th Research and development Framework Programme. In addition to the 22 Topic Areas covered by CLEO Europe and IQEC, Photonic Bandgap Materials and Entanglement in Quantum Optics and Atomic Physics will be covered by "Symposia."

An additional objective is to direct attention to selected Photonics Application topics through the special "Tech-Focus" Sessions that include tutorials, authoritative technical reviews, workshops and panel discussions. Three have been planned and will be organised as all-day events, covering respectively Optical Technologies for Inter sattelite Links, Optronics Defense Systems, and Fibre Sensors.

During the five days, some 1,100 technical papers will be presented by authors from industry, universities and research institutes, drawn from more than 60 countries around the world, including Europe, the Americas, the Middle east, Asia and the Pacific Rim.

The CLEO/Europe®-IQEC 2000 exhibition will provide attendees with the opportunity to explore innovative solutions to a wide variety of problems in industry and research. The exhibition not only provide the opportunity to see the latest in laser and photonics products from world-ranking component and system suppliers, but also to talk to industrial engineers about individual products and technology needs. Major companies will be represented at the exhibition as well as in the technical sessions.

If your work relates directly to Photonics science, technology and engineering, or to industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, micro-electronics, semiconductors or communication, or to applications in industrial production and inspection, environmental monitoring, medical/biomedical research or the chemical industry, for which lasers and photonics technology can confer a competitive advantage, then attending CLEO/Europe®-IQEC2000 is a must for you!
