Topic Areas

Optical Networks & Systems

The subcommittee on Optical Networks and Systems solicits papers on original research in all aspects of this topical area. Topics of interest include:
  • Transparent optical networks, network elements and their performance
  • Passive optical networks, architectures, experimental demonstrations, routing algorithms and protocols
  • Access network architectures and associated subsystems, OCDMA
  • LANs, MANs, and optical interconnection networks
  • Network elements as they function within the broader network architecture, including networking aspects of optical cross-connects and OADMs
  • Optical packet switched networks, internet switches and routers
  • Subsystems technologies as they apply to optical networks, including alignment and synchronization modules, high-capacity network interfaces, buffering, contention resolution and arbitration schemes
  • Optical burst switching networks and subsystems
  • Network protection and restoration, network control and management
  • Network architectures, performance analysis, traffic modeling, wavelength routing, bandwidth allocation algorithms and protocols
  • Networking field trials
  • Network security including data encryption
