The subcommittee on Optical Networks and Systems solicits papers on original research in all aspects of this topical area. Topics of interest include:
- Transparent optical networks
- FTTx and passive optical networks (PONs)
- Hybrid wireless-optical access networks
- Access network architectures, including OCDMA, and associated subsystems
- Optical packet/burst switching networks and subsystems
- LANs, MANs, and optical interconnection networks
- Internet switches and routers
- Network elements and their performance as they function within the broader network architecture, including networking aspects of optical cross-connects and OADMs
- Subsystems technologies as they apply to optical networks, including alignment and synchronization modules, high-capacity network interfaces, buffering, contention resolution and arbitration schemes
- Network architectures: performance analysis, traffic modeling, routing algorithms and protocols, wavelength routing, bandwidth allocation algorithms and protocols, experimental demonstrations
- Network protection and restoration, control and management, reliability and availability
- Network security including data encryption
- Network demonstrations, testbeds and field trials
