Conference Information:
The use of photonic techniques to generate, control and distribute radio frequency signals offers advantages in terms of the ability to access multiple frequency bands with a single hardware set, to create wide bandwidth complex waveforms, to access frequencies in the THz range, which are difficult to generate efficiently using conventional electronic technology and to distribute signals over long distances with small loss via optical fiber. Recent advances in the development of mode-locked lasers, high coherence optical sources, quantum cascade lasers and the integration of electronics and photonics have led to impressive progress toward achieving the promise of optically generated signals. This symposium seeks to discuss the issues and limitations of the various techniques as well as to discuss potential system architectures and applications.
