Biophotonics
Biophotonics is a modern cross-disciplinary biomedical technology that has opened up new horizons for transfer of state-of-the-art techniques in quantum electronics, lasers and electro-optics to the life sciences and medicine. Recently, minimally-invasive, cost-effective and rapid biophotonics techniques have been developed as potential alternatives to conventional medical methods for diagnostics, monitoring and treatment of a variety of diseases.
The focus of the LEOS'2008 Biophotonics Meeting is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for recent progress and trends in the development of state-of-the-art biophotonics technologies in both fundamental and technological biophotonics areas. Biophotonics Committee solicits contributed papers in a broad technical field including but are not limited to the following advanced topics:
• advanced diagnostic methods and systems
○ ultrahigh-resolution optical bioimaging: cellular/intracellular, endoscopic, OCT, confocal and multi-photon in-vivo
○ spectroscopy-based diagnostics: fluorescence, Raman, elastic scattering, evanescence-wave, near-/mid-IR spectroscopy
○ novel biophotonic-based sensing techniques
○ multi-modality biophotonics imaging/diagnostics
• minimally-invasive therapeutic techniques
○ ultrashort pulse laser treatments
○ precise laser-tissue manipulation/ablation in ophthalmology, dentistry, dermatology, cardiology and neurosurgery
○ novel low-level laser therapeutic techniques and light-tissue-interaction mechanisms at the cellular/intracellular level
○ light-assisted neuronal stimulation/growth and cellular/tissue repair
• nanobiophotonics
○ breaking the diffraction barrier in biophotonics nanoimaging
○ cellular/intracellular nanobiosensors
○ nanoparticle-enhanced biophotonics diagnostics/therapeutics
• development of novel laser, fiber-optic and electro-optic biophotonics tools and devices
