Special Symposium on Metamaterials and Plasmonics
Recent years have seen rapid developments in the fields of plasmonics and metamaterials. As a result of the interaction between the optical field and the electronic and magnetic properties of nanostructured materials, the propagation and scattering of light can now be controlled in a wide variety of ways. Among some of the many exciting topics that we will explore in this special symposium are the strong guiding of light with plasmonic waveguides, control of the optical near-field with nanostructures, negative index materials and optical cloaking and applications of plasmonics and metamaterials to biosensing. This day-long symposium will feature a combination of tutorials, invited and contributed talks.
