Fibers and Photonic Crystals
Session
Information
Scope:
This symposium deals with microstructured optical fiber
and photonic bandgap materials and considers their potential
for enabling photonic device applications and integration.
Microstructured optical fibers and photonic bandgap
materials represent two new paradigms for manipulating
light. These novel waveguide structures, which have
generated enormous interest in the academic and industrial
communities, possess unique optical properties and promise
a number of potential applications in different fields.
This topical meeting deals specifically with the application
of these waveguide structures as novel photonic devices.
In particular, the symposium will focus on the opportunities
and fundamental challenges for the application of these
microphotonic structures in optical communications.
This meeting will bring together scientific leaders
from universities as well as industry.
