Introduction

These Case Illustrations each provide students and practicing technologists with the opportunity to take on a current design challenge in a particular engineering field. Each Case Illustration provides a brief orientation to the topic, poses the design challenge, and provides resource to assist the user in the assigned task.

The navigation bar at the top of the page allows you to move through the Case Illustration as follows:

image of networking hardwareDesign Task and Learning Objectives accesses a screen that provides an overview of the challenge posed in this Case Illustration.

Product History accesses a screen with brief information on the history of the product that is the subject of the design task.

Product Function and Applicable Standards opens a drop-down menu of pages that discuss the product, the scope of the task, the rationale for the product to be developed, and link to standards referenced in the design task.

Effects of Standards opens a drop-down menu of pages that present brief discussions on the design challenges and opportunities posed by the use of standards in designing the product in this Case Illustration.

Resources opens a drop-down menu of pages that access the Tutorial relevant to this Case Illustration, the Glossary of terms relevant to this Case Illustration, and Further Reading that will assist in executing the design challenged posed by this Case Illustration.

Go To opens a drop-down menu of pages that access the SETF home page, the Tutorials index page, the Case Illustrations index page, and the IEEE main home page.

To begin this Case Illustration, select "Design Task and Learning Objectives" in the navigation bar. If you prefer to work through the module in order, use the arrows and thumbnail navigation at the bottom of the frame.
