Giovanni De Micheli

Giovanni De MicheliGiovanni De Micheli is known as one of the principal inventors of computer-aided synthesis for digital VLSI systems. He has made fundamental contributions to logic and high-level synthesis, and is one of the founders of the computer-aided hardware/software co-design field. Without the productivity gains created by his work, systems-on-chip designs would be significantly hampered. He pioneered several techniques such as Boolean matching, FSM state assignment based on symbolic minimization and controller synthesis for dynamic power management. His text, Synthesis and Optimization of Digital Circuits, is used worldwide for teaching logic and highlevel synthesis algorithms. He also co-wrote and/or co-edited five other books and more than 250 technical papers.

A Fellow of the IEEE and Association for Computing Machinery, Dr. De Micheli serves as president of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. He is currently a professor of electrical engineering and computer science at Stanford University.
