IEEE Medal for Engineering Excellence

Recipients
The IEEE Medal for Engineering Excellence was established by the Board of Directors in 1986 in response to a need expressed by members of the Institute to recognize exceptional achievement in application engineering in the technical disciplines of the IEEE, for the benefit of the public and the engineering profession.
It was awarded annually to an individual or group of up to three in number.
In the evaluation process, the following criteria were considered: innovative design, development or application engineering, simplification of a complex process or procedure in engineering, manufacturing, installation, etc., application of existing technology or hardware to a new use, transfer of technology to solve a problem, planning, coordination, and leadership of a major or complex project, engineering entrepreneurship, impact of the contribution on the public, and impact of the contribution on the engineering profession.
Recipient selection was administered by the IEEE Medals Council of the IEEE Awards Board.
The award consisted of a gold medal, bronze replica, certificate, and honorarium.
The final presentation of this award was in 2004. It was discontinued in November, 2009.
