LMF Grants Awarded
Specific examples of Life Member Fund supported projects within IEEE include:
IEEE Donald G. Fink Prize Paper Award: For the most outstanding survey, review, or tutorial paper published in the IEEE Transactions, Journals, Magazines, or in the Proceedings of the IEEE.
Graduate Fellowship Program in the History of Electrical Engineering: Encourage graduate students to pursue their studies in the History of Electrical Engineering.
Student Prize Paper Contest: Recognizes the student authors in Region contests for their outstanding work. Each Region conducts its own contest.
Life Member Prize in Electrical History: Awarded to the author or authors of the best article published in the previous year on the history of electro technology and its practitioners.
Life Members Newsletter: Published twice annually, it is a forum to present ideas and determine the services desired by the Life members. Besides Life Members, it is distributed to retired members between the ages of 62 to 64 and all members 65 years of age and older.
LMC Graduate Fellowship in Electrical Engineering: Awarded annually for full-time graduate work in any area of electrical engineering at an engineering school of recognized standing worldwide.
Engineers Promoting Technological Literacy Through In-Service Program An interactive programs of "in-service training" to help teachers bring technological literacy into the classroom.
RE-SEED. Since 1997, the LMF has supported Retirees Enhancing Science Education through Experiments and Demonstrations (RE-SEED). This is a Northeastern University program that prepares engineers, scientists, and other individuals with science backgrounds to assist middle school science teachers with teaching the physical sciences. Participants volunteer in middle school classrooms once a week for one academic year. Before being placed in a school, each volunteer participates in a comprehensive training program consisting of thirteen four-hour workshop sessions. Each RE-SEED participant also receives a free kit of science materials and a sourcebook with over 200 inexpensive activities that are appropriate for middle school students.
Many IEEE Life Members have participated and benefited from their involvement with RE-SEED. If you would like to learn about RE-SEED, please contact them via e-mail at reseed@lynx.neu.edu.
THE IEEE VIRTUAL MUSEUM. The LMF has supported the IEEE Virtual Museum which is designed for students ages 10-18, educators, and the general public to enhance their understanding of the principles of electrical and information sciences and technologies within a historical context. It explores the global social impact of technology and demonstrates the relevance of engineering and engineers to society. By integrating the collective expertise of the IEEE, resources from traditional museums, and interactive virtual techniques, the IEEE Virtual Museum transcends the traditional museum experience
