IEEE Tellers Committee

Mission
The Tellers Committee shall be appointed by and responsible to the Board of Directors. They shall supervise the processing of ballots received and the tallying of the votes on matters normally on the annual election ballot submitted to the membership of IEEE or to groups of members for a vote. (Bylaw I-306.21)

FAQs

What are the requirements to run for office?
Member in good standing, an IEEE member whose membership dues are current, and who is not under suspension and is a Senior Member grade or higher.  For Standards Association Board of Governors Member-at-Large, the membership requirement is Member grade or higher.

What are the requirements to petition to be on the ballot?
All petition candidates must be IEEE voting members in good standing, Senior Member grade or higher.  Petition signatures must be received at IEEE Headquarters no later than 12:00 o'clock noon on the Friday preceding 15 June of the year of the election (Bylaw I-308.9).

Verification that a petition has fulfilled the conditions of Bylaw I-308.9 and Policy 13.8 and that the petition candidate meets the qualifications of the office for which he or she is being nominated shall be confirmed by the Tellers Committee.  

Who is eligible to vote?
Eligible voting members include the following grades:

  • Life Fellow
  • Fellow
  • Life Senior Member
  • Senior Member
  • Pending Senior Member
  • Life Member
  • Member
  • Graduate Student Member

When are candidates announced?
In accordance with Article XII of the IEEE Constitution, the Board of Directors shall submit to all voting members on or before 1 May of each year a list of nominees for President-Elect; Delegate/Director or Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect, whichever is applicable; and such other officers to be elected by voting members for the coming term.

When are ballots mailed?
All ballots will be mailed by 1 September. Information and procedures regarding electronic transmission of ballots will be included in the ballot package and available on the web at http://www.ieee.org/elections.

What is the deadline for ballot receipt?
Ballots must be received before 12:00 noon on the first working day following 30 September (the "final election ballot receipt date").  Only ballots received by 12:00 o'clock noon, Central Time U.S.A. (17:00 GMT) on 1 October by the annual election vendor will be counted.  Please mail early to allow for delivery by the deadline date or submit your ballot electronically.

When are results announced?
Results of the Annual Election will be announced after the Tellers Committee tallies the ballots. The results will be made final after the IEEE Board of Directors at its November meeting, accepts the Tellers Committee Report.

Who does the IEEE Tellers Committee report to?
The Tellers Committee reports to the IEEE Board of Directors.

How many times a year does the Tellers Committee Meet?
The Committee meets once a year in October following the ballot receipt deadline.

How many members are on the IEEE Tellers Committee?
The Committee consists of not more than ten IEEE voting members, including the Chair and Vice Chair. 

What are the duties and responsibilities of the IEEE Tellers Committee?
The Tellers Committee supervised the processing of ballots received and the tallying of the votes on the annual election ballot submitted to the membership of IEEE or to groups of members for a vote.  The Tellers Committee shall also supervise the processing and tallying of any petitions received that are to be part of the IEEE annual election ballot.  The Committee shall have such other related duties as are delegated to it by resolution of the Board of Directors.

How long is the term of a member on the IEEE Tellers Committee?
The term of appointment for members shall be for the calendar year of appointment.  However, acceptance of appointment will carry with it the understanding that a member would normally be re-appointed annually to serve for no more than three consecutive years except that a Chair or Past Chair may serve one additional year.
